Built on a commitment to its principles of sustainability, company has annual sales of $46 billion and employs 42,000 people worldwide Position Summary: The purpose of this job is to provide technical support to the Asia Pacific Performance Plastics R /TS organization. The incumbent will be part of a team having initial responsibility for overseeing the safe installation and start-up of the equipment moving of Plastics equipment to the new Shanghai R center, as well as the installation and start up of the new equipments. Upon equipment installation, ultimate responsibility and accountability will entail ensuring all global fabrication project request submissions on equipment are successfully completed by the defined customer need date. The Technologist will also be responsible for scheduling maintenance to be done on the equipment, in addition to overseeing any future capital upgrades on the equipment. The Technologist will also have responsibility for ensuring all lab records and operating disciplines are created, maintained and in compliance with all safety and ISO 9001 guidelines Position Responsibilities: ● Consult with EH leadership and partner in the preparation of all safety documents (e.g., Safe Work Instructions) required for the MOC safety review / start-up of the newly installed equipments and ensure all follow-up safety action items are timely completed prior to commissioning the line for operations ● Achieve "certified operator status" on the testing equipments and safely manage project submissions and equipment preventative maintenance / issues while completing all projects in accordance with ISO 9001:2000 process standards as defined in the Work Instructions ● Achieve Six Sigma MAIC Green Belt certification through active engagement on Black Belt Six Sigma projects or by leading a Six Sigma project ● In addition to meeting standard department / site safety requirements, active in safety team and actively participate in Qtrly department Drive to Zero safety initiatives to identify, communicate and eliminate "Line of Fire" safety hazards when working with or training others in the lab ● Intellectual Capital - Performs accurate record keeping on projects and tasks, including proper use of databooks and knowledge management systems; records details of experimentation so that work may be readily reproduced by others; demonstrates accuracy and attention to detail ● Scientific Method - Builds a track record of credibility by demonstrating productivity and delivering defect free results of the highest quality; creates positive reputation for self as dependable team member by delivering on-time against commitments and assignments. Learns to efficiently and safely operate, control and maintain laboratory or pilot plant equipment relevant to assigned job area; follows established department job procedures such as Safe Work Procedures and ISO practices ● Technical Knowledge - Expands job specific knowledge through training and on-the-job learning by working with others on projects. Develops and utilizes computer and software skills relevant to job assignments Skill Requirements: ● An associates degree or Bachelor Degree in an applied science with an emphasis in chemistry or polymer technology with 3-5 years of experience in Plastic test methods and equipments ● It is preferred (but not required) the Technologist has a broad understanding / knowledge of compounding and injection extrusion process technology in addition to basic equipment troubleshooting capabilities. The incumbent must be very safety conscious and safety driven ● The Technologist will receive job assignments from various individuals in the Asia Pacific Plastics R /TS organization via the Global Request System, and will be responsible for timely communicating workload and target completion dates to individuals assigning tasks. Good organizational skills will enhance Technologist"s ability to efficiently handle multiple tasks and assignments, as deadlines are sometimes critical in meeting project milestones in addition to internal / external customer requests ● This job will require minimal travel (<5%) to training conferences, customer facilities and other locations. The incumbent will have the opportunity to work some overtime, especially during the installation / start-up of the new equipment line and during on-site customer trials ● Candidates should meet the requirements of the competency profile which can be found under Functional Competency Matrices, Research&Development, Technician/Technologist Competency Matrix - Applying ● Initiative - Must be a self-starter and able to work independently to produce quality results, overcome obstacles (resources, timing, etc.) and develop effective action plans to complete projects. Technologist will be expected to schedule informal meetings with project requesters prior to initiating fabrication work to ensure complete understanding of expectations / desired outcome ● Interpersonal Effectiveness - Must be able to communicate effectively and in a timely manner to keep others informed of the status of assigned work. Success will depend on working effectively with internal and external customers of the Plastics business in addition to working with people and teams at various levels of the organization. Must practice interpersonal versatility in interactions with others of diverse backgrounds, needs and styles. Build rapport and effective relations that lead to win/win orientation ● Learning - Must seek opportunities to develop skill sets in equipment operation / troubleshooting and improve overall individual performance. The Technologist would be encouraged and supported by management to attend training seminars as needed to improve individual performance to reach fullest potential ● Teamwork - Must have good people skills and must be a team player. Develops new skills that benefit the team and must be able to work effectively with the team to modify and improve procedures and work processes.
