The position will be located in either Shanghai or Beijing . This position will be responsible for the recruitment and implementation of the Wine Australia China Market Program on behalf of the AWBC and supporting Austrade’s China wine market development activities. This includes the effective representation, marketing, education and promotion of the Australian wine category in mainland China with an overall objective to increase awareness, trial and understanding of Australian wine. The successful candidate will report to the Austrade China Wine Team Leader on a day to day basis but will also report to the Regional Manager, AWBC in Australia for strategic direction and approvals relating to the Wine Australia China Market Program. Background information on both the AWBC and Austrade is also provided for reference as an Appendix. The core duties and key selection criteria for the position are attached. Successfully promote the awareness, trial and understanding of Australian wine in the People’s Republic of China , with an initial focus in Shanghai and Beijing . 2. Effectively implement and project manage the Wine Australia China Market Program in Shanghai and Beijing , through liaising with AWBC head office in Australia , Austrade China Wine Team, Australian wine exporters and their China market agents and distributors. 3. Successfully recruit suitable Australian wine companies to join the Wine Australia China Market Program. 4. Position Australian wine as a premium and aspirational offering, as well as creating relevant commercial opportunities to support and grow the Australian wine category. 5. Support the Austrade network to promote Australian wine education and the Wine Australia brand in Chinese cities not currently captured by the Wine Australia China Program and in AWBC-Austrade trade related events as directed by AWBC head office in Australia and Austrade China Wine Team Leader, (which will account for the equivalent of one working day a week of their time). 6. Work closely with the Austrade China Wine Team to ensure effective communication, promotion and education of Wine Australia in all trade, consumer and media related initiatives. 7. Identify and develop new opportunities for the effective marketing and promotion of Australian wines in the China market in line with agreed strategies. 8. Prepare the annual promotional program with overall guidance and direction from AWBC in planning and strategy consultation with Austrade, and with consideration of feedback from the Australian wine industry and the trade / importer community in China . 9. Contribute towards the long term strategic plan for China . 10. Identify and maximise key relationships including media and trade. 11. Effectively and regularly communicate with Australian wine industry members and other stakeholders including media and trade. 12. Provide a basic consumer/trade information service regarding the Australian wine industry including wine regions, wine industry statistics, wine positioning and wine education. 13. Assist Austrade and AWBC provide unified information to Australian exporters regarding wine trends and developments in China . 14. Undertake all other duties to assist in the positive awareness and image development of Australian wine. 15. Produce budget reports and manage in-market expenditure of the Wine Australia China Market Program budget, under the direction and approval of the AWBC head office. 16. Prepare scheduled and ad-hoc reports/submissions and project materials as required by Austrade and AWBC. Performance evaluation of this position is measured by joint Austrade and AWBC key performance indicators and criteria. Selection Criteria Qualifications: 1. A recognized business or marketing degree qualification or a degree qualification in a related field. 2. If English is not the mother-tongue language, an English language proficiency certificate (such as TOEFL or IELTS) or equivalent. Experience: 1. Direct experience within the Australian wine industry, or a strong understanding of the Australian wine industry and practical work experience dealing with Australian or imported wine brands including imported product category management in China 2. Recent commercially focused work experience in an international / multinational company or foreign governmental organization context. 3. A solid understanding of wine education and wine tasting skills and expertise. 4. A high level of knowledge and demonstrated skills in dealing with opportunities and issues inherent to the current Chinese market and trade environment for imported wine, with emphasis on Shanghai and Beijing; and a deep understanding of the needs and challenges confronting Australian exporters (international suppliers) in doing business in China. 5. Experience in strategy development and implementation including project management and event planning. 6. Experience in marketing, public relations and media liaison. Skills/Abilities: 1. High level of proficiency in both spoken and written simplified Chinese and English languages (business communication). 2. Demonstrated leadership skills and maturity, including strong organizational and budget management skills and the proven ability to work ethically and independently with minimal supervision; with demonstrated personal drive and initiative. 3. Excellent communication and relationship management skills including broad experience in public speaking and organizational representation at a senior level; and proven strong interpersonal and network management skills to maintain and develop key relationships with broad networks (Chinese and international) and to manage public relations initiatives. 4. Strong event planning and project management skills including market research and project planning experience; analytical and problem solving skills; and previous work experience in innovative and cost-effective marketing. 5. Dedicated team player with the ability to contribute to team projects and initiatives, and to work under pressure on multiple projects and to manage conflicting work priorities and deadlines. 6.
