Other main activities include the planning and organisation of missions and study trips, contacting Chinese companies and organisations involved in S with proposals and requests for information, cooperation and participation in various types of events and activities, and giving presentations to Chinese organisations on S developments in the Netherlands. In general the Project Officer supports and contributes to the professional and service oriented operation of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Beijing. The focus is mainly on the promotion of scientific and technological (S ) relations between the Netherlands and China. This is accomplished by stimulating S exchange between both countries, by reporting on S developments in China and by the promotion in China of S developments in the Netherlands. Duties and responsibilities Responsible for gathering Chinese S information and making a thorough analysis of this information, transforming it in to oversight reports relevant for possible counterparts and other parties in the Netherlands. Acting on incoming information, questions or requests in written, printed or electronic form: Staying up to date and informed on recent development in the Chinese S environment by reading Chinese and other electronic and printed media; Receiving and properly attending to visitors and delegations; Initiating new contacts with Chinese companies and organisations in the field of S Providing support to the Counsellor in various fields, e.g. by accompanying him/her to companies and other organisations in the field of S Having good typing skills, extensive experience with operating a PC and using MS Office software applications; Excellent skills in writing documents in English. Compiling S information into oversight reports as requested by the Counsellor or for the benefit of organisations in the Netherlands: Gathering and analysing data from various Chinese sources; Approaching companies, universities, research institutes, industry associations and government institutions either verbally or in writing. Organising and planning symposia, seminars, missions and study trips or other information sessions or meetings in China: Requesting cooperation and participation from Chinese parties; Making appointments with Chinese parties and setting up well planned itineraries; Actively guiding, accompany assisting, informing and advising visiting Dutch delegations during their visit. Contributing to the spread of information to a Chinese audience on S developments in the Netherlands: Organising and accompanying missions, study trips, symposia, seminars or other information sessions or meetings; Actively spreading information in any written, printed or electronic form. Translating and interpreting: Actively using excellent English and Chinese language skills (speaking, reading&writing) and occasionally acting as translator and interpreter. Other tasks that arise in the absence of an Office Manager, especially in the field of administrative and operational work and social functions in the field of S : handling, monitoring, distributing, filing, and acting on incoming information, questions or requests in written, printed, spoken or electronic form; updating and maintaining contact and information databases, making agenda"s and notes during various meetings; receiving and properly attending to visitors and delegations; properly answering, handling and processing phone calls; providing support to the Counsellor in various fields, e.g. with the planning of business trips within China and to the Netherlands. Knowledge, skills, expertise Familiar with Western culture and society; Good knowledge of operating PCs, MS Office software and performing internet searches; Excellent English and Chinese language skills (speaking, reading, writing); Strong affinity with and/or experience in science and/or technology; Capacity to organise missions and events; Capacity to interpret and translate; Pro-active, problem solving, flexible and customer-oriented attitude; Shows strong initiative, team spirit and is able to work independently and under stress. Working environment The Science&Technology section is part of the Economic Department at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands; The S section contains 4 employees in Beijing, 1 in Shanghai and 1 in Guangzhou; Most work is carried out within the Netherlands Embassy in Beijing. Occasionally business trips within China or to the Netherlands will be required. Conditions of Employment Person should exclusively have the Chinese nationality; The assistant will be employed through the Chinese Diplomatic Service Bureau of the Chinese Government who will be the formal employer; It concerns a full time employment (38 hours a week).
