During 2006 the China Gas Business Unit commenced operations at the Dapeng LNG Receiving Terminal&Trunkline Project in Guangdong Province, this is the first LNG receiving terminal in China. To date, over 1.5 million tonnes of LNG has been delivered to the terminal under the Gas Supply contract with Northwest Shelf LNG, in which BP is also a shareholder. BP is currently expanding activities at the terminal through an LNG Truck loading project to further supply gas to more remote regions of Guangdong Province. The BU is also looking to bring forward for approval some major capital investments across the gas value chain during 2007/2008 with large Chinese energy companies, which will require significant commercial and business development support. There will be opportunities for the post holder to interact with external parties as these large scale projects mature. The BU also provides critical market and commercial assurance for gas sales from domestic and international projects. JOB PURPOSE The role will be engaged in maintaining BP"s view of the Gas market growth in China and its interaction with the global gas market through close linkages with the central GP Fundamentals Team based in London. The post holder will be charged with maintaining the BU"s established gas supply and demand database and also other macro-economic databases. This will be inclusive of understanding the competitiveness of gas compared to competing fuels such as coal and LPG. As part of this role the post holder will be required to act as the point of contact for Competitor Analysis with respect to the Gas Value Chain in China. This will include frequent management updates on all parts of the Chinese gas value chain ranging from Upstream supply through to Midstream infrastructure and development of the Downstream gas market. This is a key position within the Gas China BU, as long term strategic options as well as short term business development requirements depend on succinct and accurate representation of the gas market and evolving competitive landscape for gas in China. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain the BU"s gas supply and demand database. Provide annual Fundamental analysis of gas and power sector in China, inclusive of supply, demand, pricing and competing fuel trends. Work closely with the Gas SPU Fundamental Analysis team to ensure accurate representation of the China gas market in the BP Global Gas model. Provide regular analysis of BP"s position vs competitors ie. Competitor Intelligence. Support business development activities by providing the strategic context and defining the relative competitiveness of new gas supply projects into specific regions or markets. EDUCATION&BACKGROUND Degree educated, MBA preferred; At least 2 years industry experience with a general knowledge of energy markets or some E exposure.
