The position reports to the one of the DBA team leader in Melbourne and/or Toronto offices. The job capacity will involve technical and administrative support of the Oracle RDBMS, Microsoft SQL Server RDBMS and Oracle Financials applications. In particular, this job performs the following database development and support functions: Administer and maintain on-going production and test database environments. Install, maintain and upgrade Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server RDBMS software. Install, maintain and upgrade Oracle Financials applications environment. Perform database backup and recovery. Prepare database load scripts, test and implement specifications. Provide technical support for Oracle RDBMS, Microsoft SQL Server RDBMS and Oracle Financial interface programs. Monitor, tune and troubleshoot production and test databases. Resolve technical issues with software vendors. Troubleshoot user and developer database issues. Contact technical support for database solutions and patches. Support custom and 3 rd party applications on a global scale for offices. Schedule, monitor and report on batch processes and interfaces. Provide off-hour and on-call database support. skills/knowledge This position prefers an academic or professional certification in computer science or equivalent work experience, together with a minimum of 4 years hands-on experience in Oracle database administration, Microsoft SQL Server database administration and/or Oracle Financial application administration (on UNIX, Linux and NT/XP/W2K platforms). Proficiency in technical skills to support business units in database technology. Proficiency in interpersonal skills to provide work harmony in a team environment. Proficiency in written and verbal communication skills. Strong and practical knowledge of database development methodology for Oracle RDBMS and Microsoft SQL Server technologies. Strong and practical knowledge of database security and audit requirements. Strong and practical knowledge of data management and database architecture principles and practices. Strong and practical knowledge of SQL*Plus, PL/SQL Developer, Oracle 10G Grid, Microsoft Enterprise Manager, UNIX shell scripting and other RDBMS tools. Strong and practical knowledge of Oracle and Microsoft SQL server installation, patching, support and troubleshooting. Strong and practical knowledge of database tuning, backup and recovery. Knowledge of data modelling, database design and development. Knowledge of Oracle Financials applications installation, patching, support and troubleshooting.
