The Commodity Manager has the responsibility to identify, qualify, and utilize suppliers capable of meeting quality, delivery and cost requirements to enhance lean manufacturing principles. An essential part of this role requires very close communication and co-operation with other Supply Management personnel based in Shenzhen and the UK . Develop new sources of supply from Chinese Vendors from within a pre-defined commodity portfolio Experienced Supply Chain professional with a strong background from within an international Telecoms/Electronics environment KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Identify and develop new sources of supply from global based vendors from within a pre-defined commodity portfolio Participate in localization projects to deliver cost reductions, reduced leadtimes, and improved communications. Influence the design process in terms of vendor and component selection Effectively manage complex vendor commercial relationships including Purchasing Marketing techniques (i.e. selling Bookham to our Vendors as an attractive proposition etc.). Applicable to new and existing local and international Vendors. Negotiate price reductions and favourable Terms and Conditions of Supply in line with the company’s targets. Review and determine the company’s Standard Costs (currently twice a year) Act as the departmental Project Prime representative including CPOR input on a regular basis Undertake risk/vulnerability management Undertake spend analysis and benchmarking activities, including reporting cost reductions and PPV Undertake lead-time management and reduction initiatives QUALIFICATIONS: 5 years of strategic Commodity Management/Purchasing experience within the Telecoms or Electronics industry KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Proficiency in both spoken and written English and Chinese Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels. Strong analytical, research, and negotiation skills. Ability to drive aggressive implementation plans and schedules. Able to work both independently and with team colleagues fulfilling assignments/taskes effectively Knowledge of SAP preferred. EXPERIENCE: Experience in international strategic sourcing and implementation. Experienced in creation, negotiation, and administration of contracts.
